All mopped up and ready to go: Floor Cleaning Tips

Before beginning your mopping duties, check that the floor surface is free of dust and debris and has been thoroughly swept or vacuumed. Start by spot checking the area and treating any difficult scuffs or sticky stains before mopping.

If you are using a mop with a water barrel attached, fill the barrel with warm water and add a few drops of your favourite essential oil or home-made floor cleaner. If using a conventional mop, fill your bucket with your chosen cleaning formula and hot water.

Never over-wet or soak your mop head, always ring the head out thoroughly and use it slightly damp. Remember that less is more when mopping hardwood, tiles or vinyl floors.

Begin mopping at the farthest point away from the door and work your way out of the room so that you are always standing on a dry area.

How to clean glasses safely and naturally?

For sparkling glassware over the holidays and to remove stubborn stains, add a little salt to a damp microfibre cloth for extra abrasive power and rub gently in a circular motion. Although the salt is abrasive, it is gentle enough not to scratch the delicate glass. Rinse with warm water and dry to a high shine with a glass cloth. For spotless glasses whilst using the dishwasher, place 1 cup of white vinegar into the rinse aid well while running, this is also effective on stainless steel cutlery.

Dry cleaning dangers

dryclean

We all love the ease of the dry cleaners and how amazing our clothes appear when we collect them. Unfortunately, many dry cleaning products today contain oestrogen nonylphenol and nonylphenol ethoxylates both of which are suspected hormone disruptors. These hostile pollutants have already been banned in a number of countries and other countries are moving to follow suit. However, until then, it is best to avoid dry cleaning whenever possible to limit exposure to these potentially harmful toxins.

If you must have your clothes dry cleaned, always ask that your garments not be placed in plastic wrap after cleaning as this method holds the toxins in the fabric. When you bring your dry cleaning home, hang the garments outside to air for 2 to 3 hours before wearing or returning them to the wardrobe.

Nothing is softer or more flexible than water, yet nothing can resist it

Hot water is more powerful than one might think. In fact, there are quite a few definite health benefits to be gained. Hot water is actually exercise for your blood vessels. This is because water creates physical pressure on the body and so increases the capacity of the heart. It relaxes our body and prepares us for falling asleep. Joint pain or small sports injuries can be relieved with a hot bath. A good soak in hot water after a shower can open up the pores in our skin which is perfect to try one of our natural homemade facials.

Be the change you wish to see in the world

All that is needed to commence your green cleaning routine is a good multi surface cleaner. Do not be fooled, this will clean the kitchen, shower and bathroom. A glass cleaner for windows, mirrors, chrome and shower doors, a floor cleaner and a good scrubbing paste for toilets, grout and engrained grease and grime. If you do not want to make your own formulas or feel you really do not have the time or inclination, then ensure you purchase 100% non toxic solutions.

Just as important as the products are good cloths, always buy the best you can afford and choose the high-quality microfibre option. Eventually you will have replaced all of your regular cleaning products with natural, long-lasting and non-toxic alternatives.

Simply move ahead slowly when making these lifestyle adjustments, keeping in mind, which changes are the most important to you, and which items you are using the most. Continue to add and replace your conventional commodities with safer alternatives, as and when you can, being sure to dispose of chemicals responsibly.

It is our mission at Natures Army to teach people about the hidden dangers within their homes and environments, to inspire them to want to make a change, and to empower them to believe they can. Be the change and make a resolution to detox your homes, ensuring they are safer, cleaner and healthier for everyone who lives in them. After all our homes should be our sanctuary, a place to kick back, relax, and rewind, a place where we have total peace of mind that we feel safe and secure.

“There’s nothing like a revolution for clearing the decks”

“Not least the one that’s been beckoning in our own backyards, right on our doorsteps, that’s taking on a greener hue with every day. Suddenly, we have plant-based fashions, the pineapple becomes accessory and corn acquires the panache of fur. Ideas are budding, projects are blossoming, all sorts of initiatives are being cooked up with love. Don’t change a thing – change it all: it’s time to embrace the intrinsic beauty of our own nature.” – Aude Revier
